Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to construct a theory about how we manage urban green spaces which include public parks and private lands. Through some case studies on green spaces in Ube city , Yamaguchi pref., the following were suggested. Urban green spaces have many-sided function at the same time and at the same place. Appropriate distribution is necessary for the proper functioning of green space. The distribution of green spaces should be planned in connection with relative density of population. The size of a green space and the distance between the green space and another adjacent one have a great influence on the practical value of it. As practical case studies, Basic Green Plans were built in Shimonoseki city, Yamaguchi pref, and in Munakata city, Fukuoka pref. In Shimonoseki city, a method for the participation of residents in the greenery planning was studied. Landscape planners lead workshops on urban green space, and opinions and demands of residents were reflected in the city green plan. In Munakata city, a method for the valuation of green- sufficiency was offered. A green- sufficiency map was drawn and some important green spaces which should be protected by law were chosen based on the concept of green- sufficiency.
