Research Abstract |
We examined whether the induction of heat-shock protein (hsp)-73 protects rat small intestine from warm ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and cold preservation injury. To induce the expression of hsp-73 on the small intestine, sodium arsenite (SA) (6mg/kg) was injected to Brown Norway rats 24 hrs before 3hrs-ischemia or 0,10,20,30 hrscold preservation. As the control group, the equal volume of PBS was injected as described above. As for I/R injury, the induction of hsp expression in the small intestine reduces the production of TNF,cytokine-induced neutrophil chemoattractant (CINC) and the magnitude of I/R injury after reperfusion, implying that hsp protects the small intestine from I/R injury. As for cold preservation injury, the induction of hsp expression in the small intestine reduces cold preservation injury. Therefore, 20 hrs-cold preserved grafts were transplanted to syngenic rats. The recipients transplanted hsp expressed small intestinal grafts had significantly longer graft survival than the recipient transplanted no hsp expressed small intestinal grafts. It is appered that the induction of hsp in small intestine is useful for improving I/R and cold preservation injury in small intestinal graft.
