Research Abstract |
We assessed the expression of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in human prostate cancer cell line PC-3. The expression of b FGF and VEGF increased by the growth stimulation of serum. The growth of PC-3 cells was suppressed by anti-bFGF neutralizing antibody. Also, we investigated the association of transrectal color doppler signal detection in prostate cancer with biologic behavior as assessed by tumor Gleason grade and tumor stage. Histological examination of radical prostatectomy specimens revealed a close relationship between increased flow signals and tumor grade. Increased color doppler flow was evaluated by immunohistochemical study and high color doppler flow was associated with greater numbers of vessels. We may conclude that the angiogenesis is closely related to biologic behavior of prostate cancer.
