Research Abstract |
We developed a new apparatus to meaesure PPT of masticatory muscles and capsule. In this study, we developed the new apparatus and discussed the accuracy of it. To determine the normal range of PPT in normal subjects, 20 normal subjects were measured their PPT.To evaluate the PPT in TMD patients, 20 TMD subjects were measured their PPT.To evaluate whether or not PPT changes occur in subjects with and without temporomandibular disorders (TMD), 20 normal subjects and 20 TMD patients were measured their PPT.The results obtained as follows : 1.The PPT values of superficial masseter, anterior temporalis, and lateral capsule in the female group were significantly lower than those in the male group. 2.The normal PPT value of masticatory muscles in Japanese was 2.8-2.9kgf/cm^2 in male, and 1.3-1.8kgf/cm^2 in female. 3.There was obvious gender difference in the PPT. 4.The PPT values of superficial masseter, anterior temporalis, and lateral capsule in the TMD patient group were lower than those in the control group. 2.There was significantly difference between the TMD patient group and the control group in the PPT of lateral capsule.
