Research Abstract

Purpose : To establish a theory on the structure of loving in nursing.
Subjects and Methods : Quwstionnaires were mailed to 500 nurses living in Hyogo-prefecture and 89.3% of them were collected. In the questionnaires the same sets of questions were asked about the nurses' lives and their clients' lives. To compare the nurses' perceptions of their lives and of their clients' lives, the results were analyzed using the simple averages of the importance of the answers to each question and by using the factor analysis method.
Results : 1.the nurses tended to view their own lives as more significant than those of thier clients.
2.With respent to their own lives, factors considered to be essential to human existence such as "leisure", "security", and "relationships" were ranked highly. On the other hand, they tened to regard their clients' lives as objects for supervision.
3.In conslusion, they do not relate to thier clients using criteria based on thier own experiences. Other criteria seem to be applied with regard to their clients' lives.
To establish "nursing for those living" or "nursing based on living", further analysis of the factors is required.
