| Research Abstract |
This study aims to clarify the effects of residential environment to the preferences of the vegetational landscape. According to the foreigners' description of Japanese landscape, they had found the diversified vegetation and more beautiful landscape than their native counties. Then, the preference of Japanese respondents were investigated on the diversified vegetational landscape and the favorable landscape components were considered.
In the fiscal year of 1996,386 photographs of the South Japanese Alps were collected from the guidebooks and the scientists, the photographers, because the most diversified vegetation was observed there in Japan. The photographs were categorized in terms of the site location of altitudes and of the distances from view points. And the typical landscape photographs of 24 were obtained.
In the fiscal year of 1997, the questionnaire survey was conducted using the photographs printed in three sheets of A4 paper. Mail survey and visiting survey were used for 1006 persons who were chosen from the lodging list offered by Kitadake Cottage and Kitazawa Choei Cottage, Sawarajima Lodge, and from the residential registration list offered by Hase Village and Ina City, and answers of 691 were obtained. The results were following 3 points.
1. Alpine plants and subalpine forests were preferred.
2. Debris sites and forests of Cryptomeria Japonica, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Laurilignosa were not prefered.
3. Devotee of hiking and plants, attributes of sex and resident, and natural vegetation of residential area affected to the preference of vegetational landscape.
