Research Abstract

This study, which is one in a series on the strategy for development of teaching materials, amis to examine the strategy for development of teaching materials. First, a research was carried out about the conditions of teaching material utilization, users of teaching materials, the conditions of using teaching materials, the time when teaching materials were used, relationship between teaching materials used and a purpose of their use, and relationship between teaching material utilization and student interest, using questionnaire survey on teaching materials which were actually used in Industrial Arts. Next, another study whose objects were teachers in Industrial Arts indicated what kinds of consideration or ideas teachers had in utilizing or developing teaching materials. In addition, further deliberations were carried out through real class work in Industrial Arts on the relationship between teacher instruction and student learning, which would be fundamental information in order to utilize and develop teaching materials. On the other hand, as one comparative study, utilization and development of teaching materials in the U.S.was examined and characteristics of textbooks used in lower junior high school were also examined.
The results and conclusions acquired through each study above indicate the ways to develop teaching materials necessary for achieving objiectives in Technology Education, for instructing teaching content accurately, and consequently for completing and progressing Technology Education. In other words, those findings constitute the strategy for developing teaching materials.
