Research Abstract |
In order to develp an agile ordering system for multi-stage production system, this research proposed a reactive controller of buffer inventory level for reacting to the unstable changes in demand. In the controller, the unstable changes in demand are detected, and the optimal level of buffer inventory is determined as a reaction to the changes. In addition to the controller, switching between the Kanban system and the concurrent ordering system is also proposed in this research. In the proposed system, the time series data of demand is monitored, and switching the order release systems and controlling the buffer inventory level are considered when the unstable change in demand is detected. The effectiveness of the proposed system is clarified by simulation experiments. As a result of simulation experiments, it is clarified that the proposed controller can react to the unstable changes indemand with satisfying the required level for the mean waiting time of product demand, and the proposed controller reduces as much as about 77% of the mean work-in-process inventories of the system without controlling the buffer inventory level. Also, for satisfying the required level, the proposed system which switches the ordering systems and controls the buffer inventory level reduces the mean work-in-process inventories much more than the system without switching ordering systems.
