Research Abstract |
1. The items clarified through citizens' investigations of environments are as follows : (1) Regional characteristics of air pollution are as follows : pollution is heavy at the street or avenue at the crossing and weak at back street. Back street or vegetation has effects of making the concentration of pollutant to be low. (2) Regional characteristics of air temperature are as follows : Air temperature is high at the street or avenue at the crossing and weak at back street or vegetative space. Even in large vegetative space, the air temperature is high at the open space with paved ground surface without any tree. (3) Assessment or evaluation of environments by citizens through on-the-spot investigation is very dependable. This method is superior to that by pictures. (4) Wells are very important especially at the densely resided area, and it needs cares to maintain wells. It is also clarified that developments of underground such as subway give bad effects to underground water, not only in neighboring wells but also those with over hundreds meters distance. (5) The facts mentioned above show large values as amenity on living environment in back streets and vegetative spaces. 2. It is clear that the ability of citizens' to investigate and assess the living environments. To continue the citizens' monitoring and investigation of environments, there needs supports by some systems of volunteers and researchers.
