Research Abstract |
We have applied the engineering of semi-conductor technology such as ion beam procedure for the surface modification of titanium based biomaterials. These composite materials coated by TiO<@D22@>D2 and HAP using Ion beam assisted sputter depositioning (IBASD) method had a strong chemical and mechanical properties in virto. Animal experiments showed that these IBASD modified thin films on titanium substrate had a high compatibility both in soft tissue and hard tissue in vivo conditions. The results revealed as follows. 1.Soft tissue reaction : PIXE analysis showed that there was a limited titanium release from TiO2-surface-modified materials in rat abdominal walls in relation to a limited numbers of inflammatory cell migration along the modified surface implants. 2.Hard tissue reaction : The histomorphometric analysis showed that there was statistically higher bone contact in the cortical passage of IBASD-HAP specimens (70.2(]SY.+-。[)4.2) as compared with the control (41.6(]SY.+-。[)14.9, p<0.01). In conclusion, more bone was found adjacent the IBASD-HAP coated implants without any negative effects on bone healing.
