| Research Abstract |
英語の否定構文の史的発達を分析する上で、オックスフォードから提供されるコンピュータコーパスや市販のCD-RomコーパスであるThe Bible in Englishなどを活用した。具体的な研究成果としては、Cotton A. x.写本に含まれるPearl, Cleanness, Patience, Sir Gawain and the Green Knightという4つの頭韻詩のうち、con(現代英語のdoにあたる)の用法に関して、Pearlが他の3つの作品と異なる傾向を示すことが明らかになった点、中英語の否定縮約形(nis<ne is)について、時代が下るにしたがって頻度が低下することが明らかになった点、“…whether he came here or not"のような文に見られるor notという構文が中英語の後期に現れ、or noやor noneなどと競合しながら発達する点などである。研究成果の一部は、4月27日にUniversity of Wisconsin, U. S. A.で開催されたSociety for Germanic Philologyの第2回大会でも発表した。本年7月には、英国ケンブリッジ大学で開催される英語の標準化に関する学会で、中英語の否定構文と標準語との関係について発表予定である。
