Research Abstract

SrTiO_3(STOと略称)系熱電変換材料のエネルギー変換効率をさらに上げるため、組成・構造・組織が制御されたナノセラミックスおよびナノコンポジットの構築を行い、熱電変換性能を詳細に検討した。また、熱電モジュールと太陽電池を組み合わせたハイブリッド太陽電池を設計・試作して、太陽エネルギーの更なる高効率利用に資する技術への展開を図った。
先ず、SrTiO_3(STO)系熱電変換材料の変換効率をさらに向上するため、第二成分としてチタン酸カリウム(KTO)、安定化ジルコニアなどのナノワイヤを添加してナノコンポジット化し、出力因子を保ったまま熱伝導率の低減を狙った。Nb-STOマトリックスに低熱伝導性のKTO(チタン酸カリウム)ナノファイバを分散させて高ZT化を試みた結果、KTO粒子はSTOと一部反応してSTO粒界に沿って薄い層を形成し、これが熱伝導率を低下させるとともにSTOの粒成長を促進してキャリア移動度を上げることにより、これまでのNb-STOセラミックスの最高性能を上回ることに成功した。
さらに、自家製のTiO_2系色素増感太陽電池フィルムとビスマステルル素子で構成される市販熱電モジュールを組み合わせたハイブリッドデバイスを試作し、擬似太陽光を用いた発電評価を行った。電流-電圧特性の詳細な測定から得られたエネルギー変換効率は、用いた太陽電池と熱電モジュールの性能に依存するが、7%~14%超に及んだ。14%を超える変換効率はビスマステルル系人工超格子熱電素子を用いた場合に得られた。色素増感太陽電池の透明性を利用して太陽熱を熱電素子で電気に変換することにより、トータルでSi太陽電池に匹敵するエネルギー変換効率が得られることを世界で初めて実証した。
