Research Abstract |
In the field of chemistry of naturally occurring bioactive materials there have been remarkable progress of new structures and important compounds from marine organisms. This project aims at searching for a new bioluminescent system in new luminous organisms in tropical area. It also includes strongly active natural products in these tropical area. For comparison, those luminous systems as well as other biologically active materials have been compared with those in Okinawan area. Fiscal year H10, 5 researchers have visited and stayed for one or two months to continue their research work, particularly analytical studies with NMR and Mass Spectroscopy. As a results many sequence heterogeneity of peptaibol, trichotoxin, have been established as well as some cyclic peptides. In respect to the luminescence, various many kinds of luminous organisms have been found, particularly during joining the sampling cruise with the activity of Phuket Marine Biology Center. They are sea pen, nudibranch, squid, worm, ostracod in Andaman Sea, South Thailand. Bringing a CCD spectrometer, a portable HPLC, etc afforded quite productive results for identification of the possible luminous system. New research channel among natural product chemists in Nagoya University and Chulalongkom, Khon Keen, King Mong Institute of Technology, Mahidol, Prince of Songkla Universities have been established through the current cooperative research program. It was quite successful in scientifically.
