Research Abstract |
A series of experiments were carried out at experimental fields of Vietnam Agricultural Science Institute (Hanoi, Vietnam) for 3 years, in order to construct a model to estimate rice attainable yield. The effect of flooding on 3 main rice varieties in the Red River Delta was quantified and incorporated into the model. In addition, the effects of transplanting shock was also incorporated into the model. The results of preliminary validation of the model using data obtained at farmers' fields suggest the applicability of the model for the yield estimation. To clarify the changes of land use, agricultural technologies and resource input, and the movement of agricultural product after Doi Moi, questioner survey with 19 main subjects and nearly 1,000 items was carried out on all the 218 cooperatives in Nam Ha 1 Irrigation Scheme. Amount of collected data were enormous and the full analysis was not completed yet, but the results showed that cooperatives in the area have diversified land use s

ystems pronouncedly. The analysis of the results of cropping systems in the Coc Thanh Cooperative suggested that cultivation systems in that cooperative is remarkably intensified. Aiming at the evaluation of the utilization efficiency of water and soil resources, water and nutrient cycle of Nam Ha 1 Irrigation scheme was analyzed. In both irrigation and drainage water, the contents of nitrogen and phosphorus had a tendency to increase during the rainy season. The amount of nitrogen was much lower than expected. At the Coc Thanh Cooperative, clear differences of phosphorus concentration water were observed between irrigation and drainage, and the soil analysis of planting fields of Coc Thanh Cooperative suggested that some portions of drained phosphorus seemed to be from vegetable fields. Considering the above results, the agricultural production systems in the Red River Delta is characterized by the intensification and diversification and it is shown that the agricultural resources are utilized efficiently. The outflow of nutrient to outer environment was at low level, suggesting the soundness of the system itself. Less
