Research Abstract |
(Experiments on Asynchronous Parallel Computational Mechanics) R. Shioya visited Georgia Inst. of Tech., and had a meeting with Prof. S. N. Atluri and Dr. H. Kawai. He performed experiments on parallel finite element analyses of domain decomposition using multiple computers both in Univ. of Tokyo and Georgia Inst. of Tech. Then, the algorithm was improved to take ininto account heavy imbalance in network performance, and further experiments on FE problems of 100 millions DOFs were performed using computers in Univ. of Tokyo, Georgia Tech, Greenwich Univ. (UK) and GMD (FRG). H. Okuda also visited Georgia Tech. and performed asynchronous experiments on computational fluid dynamics. (Investigation of Network Cluster Computing) T. Horie visited US, and investigated this issue, Network performance is increasingly important in parallel computational mechanics. (Investigation of Object-oriented parallel computational mechanics) M. Miki visited US, and investigated an object-oriented approach, w

hich is expected to be a main stream of autonomous computational mechanics. Researches on high-performance parallel computational mechanics in a heterogeneous computer environment begin performed in US, Europe and Asia have been investigated, and experiments on large-scale asynchronous parallel computational mechanics simulations were performed using multiple computers in Japan, US and Europe through the Internet. (Investigation of Large-scale Analysis) G. Yagawa visited Austria, and investigated meshless parallel computational mechanics. (investigation of parallel computational mechanics in Asia) G. Yagawa and S. Yoshimura visited Hong Kong, and T. Furukawa visited Hong Kong and P. R. China, and investigated latest researches on parallel computational mechanics. Few high-performance parallel computers are available in Asia, and researches on parallel processing have just started recently. On the other hand, PC cluster and WS cluster are expected to be popular as parallel computing environments on Asia, and thus asynchronous parallel computational machanics in highly demanded. Less
