Research Abstract

1 . The research background. The carbon material used as high temperature structural material can be used even in 2500'C high temperature under the inert atmosphere. Therefor carbon is a material expected as aero space relation material, nuclear reactor and material for nuclear fusion reactor. However, the carbon material has the defect which wears out under the high-temperature oxidizability atmosphere by the oxidation. Therefore, the research in which the oxidation resistance to carbon material is improved is carried out by many researchers in the world. There is seldom the report which discussed the self-healing property when oxidation resistance system of the material was damaged by accident. It is considered that in this study group, research and development of the high temperature structural material with the high reliability are necessary.
2. The research operation plan. In order to develop carbon base material with the oxidation resistance characteristics jointly, we, Advanced M … More aterial Laboratory group of Nagasaki Univ. and Advanced Carbon Material Research Group of the Chinese Academy of Science. Institute of Metal Research added boron carbide and silicon carbide to the carbon matrix. Concretely, the carbon base material of which the composition differs in both group is produced, and the material and ceramic additional effect on oxidation resistance is examined well-informed, and the oxidation-resistant mechanism is clarified. Afterwards, we also aimed at carrying out the material design, and developing carbon base material with the self-repair function in the cooperation.
3. The research result. As the result that it produced the carbon base material of which the composition differs in both countries and evaluated physical property such as oxidation characteristics under the drying atmosphere on each composite material, carbon/ceramics composite material in which the ceramic particle dispersed by forming surface oxidation protective film after the oxidation, the excellent oxidation resistance was manifested, and it clarified the expression mechanism. Next, this composite material of material design was produced, and it succeeded in the development of the carbon base material which is excellent in oxidation resistance and mechanical property, and it was clarified to have the self-healing property.
