Research Abstract |
THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT IS TO EXTRACT AND ANALYZE THE RHYTHM OF JAPANESE AND OTHER LANGUAGES AND TO DESCRIBE THEIR ACOUSTIC CHARACTERISTICS SO THAT WE CAN DEVELOP PROGRAMS TO ASSIST LEARNERS OF JAPANESE ACQUIRE THE RHYTHM OF JAPANESE.WE HOPED TO DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL TOOL WHICH DESPLAYS RHYTHMIC COMPONENTS OF VARIOUS LANGUAGES BY MODIFYING TEMAX (TEMPO EVALUATION AND MEASUREMENT ALGORITHM BY KS) WHICH AUTOMATICALLY EXTRACTS SPEACH RATES OF UTTERANCES. WE ARE SUCCESSFUL IN FINDING CHARACTERISTIC RHYTHMIC PATTERNS AND COMPONENTS OF JAPANESE, KOREAN, FRENCH, SPANISH, CHINESE, AND OTHER LANGUAGES.THE RHYTHMS OF EACH LANGUAGE ARE COMPLEX WITH MALTI-LAYERED COMPONENTS AND THEY DIFFER FROM EACH OTHER.WE DEVELOPED A PROGRAM TO SHOW RHYTHMIC COMPONENTS ON PC BUT IT NEEDS TO BE REVISED TO BE USED AS LANGUAGE TEACHING TOOL.
