Research Abstract |
In 1997, we have studied on a basic architecture of flexible network, network design methodology based on the proposed architecture, a design of basic mechanisms to realize the flexibility and basic technologies to achieve the applications of flexible network. Actually we have promoted (1) basic study on a global architecture for flexible network, (2) basic study on knowledge-based design methodology for flexible network, and (3) basic study on knowledge-based distributed applications based on flexible network. In 1998, we have studied on the following sub-themes using research results of 1997 in order to establish knowledge-based design techniques based on knowledge engineering and agent-based computing technologies. These are, (1) required function analysis for flexible network and its detailed design, (2) design and prototyping of knowledge-based design support functions for flexible network, and (3) design and prototyping of knowledge-based distributed applications based on flexible network. In 1999, we have studied on the following sub-themes using research results of 1998 in order to realize the architecture of flexible network and knowledge-based distributed applications with some experimental implementations of them. These are, (1) improvement of functions of flexible network and its evaluation, (2) implementation, experiments and evaluation of knowledge-based design support functions, (3) implementation, experiments and evaluation of knowledge-based distributed applications based on flexible network, and (4) total evaluation and summarization of flexible network and its design support technologies. Through 3 years research projects, we have shown the effectiveness of the flexible network as the next generation network technology.
