Research Abstract |
The field observation was carried out on the slopes of the Rokko Mountain, which had become bare due to the Southern Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake in 1995. In 1997, the effects of soil freezing on the slopes of the Tanakami mountains and the Hira mountains were analyzed on the basis of the existing data, while planning the field observation and executing the preliminary investigation in the Rokko Mountains, and preparing the instrumentation. Systematic field data were obtained in 1998 and 1999. The analyses of the field data on the slopes of the Rokko Mountains have not been finished so as to be compiled in an academic article, since the experimental slope was changed in the spring of 1999and the data of soil freezing are available only in the mid -winter season. Thus, the research report involves the results of the studies in the Tanakami Mountains, the Hira Mountains and the Rokko Mountains. The major research activities of this project are summarized as follows: The preparation and instrumentation of the field observation, and the analyses of the existing data were carried out in 1997. In 1998, re-examination of the effects of freezing and thaw of soil on the hydrogeomorphic processes on the slopes in the Tanakami Mountains and Hira Mountains was added and the result was reflected by the field guidebook for the excursion of the general meeting of the Japanese Research Group of physical Hydrology held in June 1998. In 1999, an academic article was published in Transactions of Japanese Geomorphological Union, based on the analysis of the effects of soil freezing and vegetative conditions on the slope failure at the time of the Southern Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake.
