Two studies were conducted to investigate to the ability of young children to infer the personality traits of other people and use information about these traits to predict their future behavior, In Study I, Subjects(2 to 4 year-olds) watched a series of stories on TV.Each of the character's traits could be inferred from these stories. The subjects were asked to infer each of the character's traits and to predict each of the character's behavioral reaction to a new event, It was found that 2 year-olds could infer personality trait of other people, and 3 year-olds, but 2 year-olds, predict their future behavior, In Study 2, 3 year-olds watched a series of animated cartoons of TV.The traits of each character could be inferred from these animated cartoons. The subject's conversations while watching TV were analyzed and they were asked several questions about the characters in the animated cartoons, It was found that 3. year-olds could spontaneously infer personality traits of other people and predict their future behavior, and they inferred generalized personality traits from specific behavior.
