Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to examine the changing processes in social spaces of the city. Those changes are being aimed at and carried out by the concerned subjects i.e. inhabitants, local governments, private enterprises, etc. To achieve the aim, I investigated various preceding theories and researches which were thought about relating to my subject. Then, I tried to carry out empirical research which closely combines existing statistical data and our original survey data. Last year (first research year) I collected various statistical social data of every town in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo and constructed a database to examine the actual conditions of social differentiation and problems of daily life. Then, I tried some multivariate data analysis and got about 9 pattern area types. So I mapped those 9 patterns by using a Geographical Information System software. This year (second research year) I continued theoretical study and analyzing the collected data. And I concentrated my concern on the problems of education which are one of the most important life-needs in the changing social spaces of the city. Then I carried out some questionnaire surveys to the people and teachers of elementary schools in Hikarigaoka, Nerima-ku. It is the area which was redeveloped more than 10 years ago and many apartment houses are located. But as time goes by, aging of the inhabitants proceeds, and some social problems are arising, Changes and differentiations were also observed between the all as many as eight elementary schools in Hikarigaoka town - north and south 2 km, east and west 1 km town. Such changes and differentiations reflected the surrounding situation of the inhabitants. So I considered such transfiguration processes and partly cleared up the dynamics which were made by the various participating subjects.
