Research Abstract |
THE AIM OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO INVESTIGATE THE CONTEMPORARY STRUCTURE OF ONGOING EDUCATIONAL REFORMS IN THE ADVANCED COUNTRIES. WHEN WE DEAL WITH EDUCATIONAL REFORMS IN THOSE SOCIETIES, WE CAN SEE A PHENOMENON OF MARKETISATION IN COMMON. IS THIS A CIONCIDENCE OR NOT? WE ANALYZED THE STRUCTURE OF VARIOUS DISCOURSES WHICH HAVE INFLUENCES ON EDUCATIONAL REFORMS. IN ORDER TO MAKE OUR ANALYSIS, WE PICKED UP TWO COUNTRIES, JAPAN AND BRITAIN, AS TYPICAL ADVANCED COUNTRIES WHICH SHOWED THE SAME TREND OF SOCIAL TRASFORMATION. OUR FINAL FINDINGS FROM THIS RESEARCH CAN BE SUMARIZED AS BELOW. 1. THERE IS AN IDEOLOGICAL TREND ALL OVER THE WORLD WHICH IS TERMED AS A GLOBALISM OR POST-MODERNIZATION. THIS IDEOLOGY IS LINKED WITH THE INTEREST OF POLITICAL PARTY OR SPECIFIC SOCIAL CLASS. 2. CONVENTIONAL CLASS CONFLICT THEORY IS NO LONGER APPROPRIATE TO EXPLAIN THIS TREND. UTRAL ARE USED BY VARIOUS SOCIAL GROUP TO JUSTIFY THEIR POLICIES OR VALUES. 3. OUR COMPARATIVE STUDY REVEALED THE FACT THAT EDUCATIONAL REFORM IN BRITAIN IS TOWARD MARKETIZATION EVEN THOUGH LABOR PARTY TOOK POLITICAL HEGEMONY. THIS MEANS TERMINATION OF CONFLICT MODEL OF EDUCATIONAL REFORM, SWINGING BETWEEN TWO PARTIES. 4. OUR INVESTIGATION INTO JAPANESE EDUCATIONAL DISCOURSES ENABLE US TO CONCLUDE THAT JAPAN IS STEPPING INTO A NEW PHASE OF EDUCATIONAL REFORM. THAT IS A SHIFTING FROM EQUALITY POLICY TO FREE MARKET POLICY. FREE MARKET POLICY IS SPONSORED BY UPPER MIDDLE CLASS PARENTS AND ECONOMISTS INSPIRED BY FRIEDMAN'S "FREE TO CHOOSE".
