Research Abstract |
In the 1997 academic year, I have obtained periodicals and books on the avant-garde art in the 1930s, mass are in the republican era, and folk art in the Republican era. I Have clavified some aspects of mass art centred around advertisements in the 1930s, as well as past scholarship in folk art and its relation to the modernist movement. This has been published in February 1999 as "The Path of 1930s Modernism". The study has mode it clear that the 1930s was bristling with mass art, folk art, academic art and avant0-garde art. In the 1998 academic year, I have focused on the contemporary art from the 1980s onward. I have obtained and analysed materials on folk art in Taiwan, the history of contemporary art in the mainland China, and folk and mass art. I have examined the significance of mass and folk art within contemporary avant-garde art. Besides, I have taken a new look at mass and folk art as : Anti-government" and "Anti-urban" art, and raconstructed a history of Chinese contemporary art. A part of the Achievement is the publication of the book, Avant-garde China. So far, I have contributed to a changing view of mass and folk art from the 1930s up to now. Also, I have the important issue of "Maoist model" has surfaced. Henceforth, , it is necessary to investigate its formation and transformation. Furthermore, I had reviews by such Beijing art critics as Li Xianting and Huang Du in August 1997 and November 1998.
