Research Abstract |
A basic study for developing a balloon-borne semi-conductor spectrometer was carried out to observe solar flare hard X-ray spectra with very high energy resolution (a few keV). Cadmium-Telluride devices with different sizes (5 mm-,10 mm-, and 15 mm-squares ; thickness 0.5 mm), and with package design suitable to form a detector assembly as a spectrometer unit, were developed and their basic performance (such as energy resolution) was evaluated. In the meanwhile, system studies towards balloon-borne observations were also carried out.
