Research Abstract

In the first year, the testing machine for bearing strength of tooth surface of conical gear is designed and developed.
The power circulating method is taken into the testing machine. Test gears and master gears are put into the same gear box and the torque flange coupling is positioned at the end of the torsion shaft. From these characteristics, the compact machine is realized.
In the next year, using this machine, the experiments of bearing strength are executed.
The material of the test gear is SCM440(JIS standard), the hardness of the test gear is Hv=250-300. Test gear is normalized after hobbing and finished by grinding. Pitting damages are occurred on tooth surface of the test gear. When the area rate of pitting become 3 % of contact area till the number of times of contact to 10^7, the circhlating torque value at the experiment are decided to the maximum allowable load. In experiments, tooth surface of test gears are broken when the load is 157-177 [N.m].
