Research Abstract

This study is intended to review the characteristics of forty five public hospitals which constructed with the theory of modernistic hospital planning in 1970s.
1. The frequency of renewal project that grasped by this study is about once two point five years. This value is very high in the view of experimental knowledge.
2. The number of renewal project is small within five years after completion. It gradually increases and reaches maximum in ten to fifteen years. At this period, any renewal project is executed once two years.
3 .Frequency may be reduce gradually in the after fifteen years, and frequent renewal project is main of reconstruction in the equipment of innovation at this period. Because of the difference between the life of existing building and the life of extended building, there is a negative tendency of extension. On the contrary, relative importance lay on the reconstruction which can raise residual functions by re-construction.
4. In the characteristic about intensive and … More independentive block plan type, we find the following. About 15yeas after completion of hospital, in the case of insentive block plan type, it is difficult that renew piping , have been used since hospitals were builder , with maintain of hospital function .On the other hand, in the case of multi-wing block plan type developed for a deal with extension or rebuilding of hospitals, we can confirm the ease of extension or rebuilding. And we can grasp concretely where problems about renewal of hospitals(ex. problem of patiental flow caused by that each of parts in the hospital are too far. etc.).
5. It is in common that a high-frequency renewal make envelopment of site for hospitals worse. There are not so many hospitals that have enough site to deal with request of extension, On the other hand, to keep the parking space is highly requested in actuality, it clears that external space as a environment of hospitality became worse and worse. To keep enough site is fundamental problem for renewal. Less
