Research Abstract |
Some sample from real architecture and real urban space were chosen to construct digital data base on internet with using the way of describing as "Space Block". In 1997, the space which has clear border and is easy to describe as "Space Block" were investigated. The investigation object are square in front of Pompidu center(Paris), Le Ccuvent de La Tourette(Lyon), Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II(Milano), Piazza del Campo(Siena), Pantheon(Rome), Piazza della Cisterna(a small town in south Italy). In 1998, objects were pick up from contemporary architecture which are difficult to describe as "Space Block". The objects are works done Alvar Aalto in Finland, New National Gallery(Berlin), Galeries Lafyette(Berlin), and Kunsthal(Rotterdam), etc. Pictures of the whole circumstances of the object space were collected from one or plural points. Data base was built with "Quick Time VR(QTVR)" system which enabled to handle interactively on computer from these pictures. From this, This data base made it easy to imagine the atmosphere of surrounded space such as space it is difficult to understand from drawings or a picture. With comparing the processed data, it was shown concretely that to reproduce the atmosphere of the space, there are effective elements which is decided by the character of the space. Panorama from the plural points, lighting and reflection light, the material of the ceiling and the floor, a connection between the space which adjoins it, and the outside space.
