Research Abstract |
In this study, liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data of twelve ternary systems containing methanol, alkane (heptane. octane. nonane or decane). and ethers (diisopropyl ether, diisoamyl ether or methyl phenyl ether (anisole) have been determined at 25゚C. Further, LLE data of three binary systems containing ethylene glycol (ethylene glycoldiisopropyl ether, methyl tertiary butyl ether. And diisoamyl ether) have been measured for 25-60゚C.Several data reported here cannot be found in the compilations of the DECHEMA series(Sorensen and Ant, 1980). The UNIFAC group contribution method is used to predict or correlate the observed binary and ternary Liquid-liquid equilibrium data. It is found that the UNIFAC with original group-interaction parameters developed for LLE could not provide good prediction. Therefore, the UNIFAC group-interaction parameters were ajusted to give better correlation performance. Ternary LLE results have been published for the methanol-alkane (heptane. octane, nonane or decane)-diisopropyl ether system (Fluid Phase Equilibria Vol.136, 141-146.1997). A part of this work was presented at the Toyama Meeting, Soc. Chem. Engrs. Japan. AOl, Toyama (1998).
