Objective : Also in present, compared with many foreign countries, there are many numbers of mental disease-floors, and mean-hospitalization days are long in Japan. The promotion of discharge of the long-term hospitalization patients has been the important subject. This study aimed at presuming what social resources are needed most based on the grade of the disabilities of social functions, when promoting discharge of the long-term hospitalization patients. ents. Results; About the inpatients discharge possibility, 115 patients (GroupA, 10.2%) would be left from hospitals near future (less than 1 year) with the improvement of the condition of illness, 453 patients (GroupB, 40.3%) would be left from hospitals near future (less than 1 year) if social resources had been available, and 556 patients (GroupC, 49.5%) would continue hospitalization because of the condition of illness. About total devient behavior score (TDB), the difference between GroupB and day care units, living accommodations, GroupA, GroupC is significant (p<0.01). And the difference between GroupB and living skills training institutions is significant (p<0.05). About total general behavior score (TGB), the difference between GroupB and day care units, living accommodations, GroupA, GroupC is significant (p<0.01). But the difference between GroupB and living skills training institutions is not significant. Discussion : GroupB occupies 40.3%. It becomes clear that discharge of long-term inpatients is not promoted, since social resources are insufficient. Inpatients of GroupB need the more living support than users of day care units. According to the results of this Study, discharge of GroupB will be promoted, if living support system almost equivalent to the users of living skills training institutions is prepared. Conclusions : For promoting the discharge of long-term inpatients, increase the number of living skills training institutions and expansion of use are needed. Moreover community living support centers and home-help services, etc. have to be fixed, and establishment of the community living support system which can be equivalent to living skills training institutions is required.
