(1) IMPROVEMENT OF SUBJECTIVE VERTICAL MEASURING APPARATUS The original subjective vertical measuring apparatus (1997) had several defects, including abrupt disappearance of CRT displayed results and interruption of the measurement. We have improved on the apparatus, which stores the data automatically and can print it out at any time. (2) IMPROVEMENT OF GAZE FUNCTION MEASURING SYSTEM The present system for gaze function measurement makes use of terrestrial magnetism to show the head position while pursuing a moving target line, however, the magnetism may be affected by surroundings, resulting in cause of error. Now another measuring system is applicable by substituting the gaze function for gyrosensor output which is steadier than the magnetism. (3) CLINICAL RESULTS The age difference of the subjective vertical was obtained by the above-mentioned reformed measuring apparatus. The children group 8 to 10 years showed subjective vertical as large as 3 degrees, and the elderly group above 66 years presented larger, but statistically not significant value as compared with that of the normal adults ranging 21 to 40 in age.
