Research Abstract |
This database is an attempt to document the research that has been undertaken into students' conceptions in science and mathematics over the last decade. The research field raises interesting epistemological and educational issues about the nature and development of students' science/mathematic knowledge. A major theoretical perspective underlying much of the work is assumption that knowledge is personally and socially constructed. At Saitama Univ., we first examined some teachers' interests and difficulties of science teaching. We found that many elementary/secondary school teachers thought that teachings of astronomy and meteorology are very difficult. And, elementary school teachers are interested in doing problem solving for pupils. But, secondary school teachers are interested in bringing students' notice to subjects. Second, we developed 7 prototypes of constructivist' s research database system, Each of them has particular theme, for instance, database for secondary school teachers, database for elementary school teachers, preconceptions of children, conceptual change, genetics, buming environment education. In many instances, these reseach databases have led curriculum development. At Naruto Univ. of Education, We developed a prototype of mathematical database system, We developed new system using linux for making mathematical education database about specific research area . This database notes extensive articles concerned with conceptual development within the practice of mathematical education. In this research, we examined some perspectives of constructivist's research database in developing new system. And we explored how these perspectives could help interpreting research on constructivists' teaching. The succession to the further study and the method of evaluation for the usage of database should be carefully examined.
