Research Abstract

The process of Research and Publications :
Last year the investigators reseached the trend and the issues of social studies education in Japan by questionaires, and as a result of investigation published The Report of the Results of Questionnaires as to the Social Studies Curriculum. Besides they made basic researches into the trends in the United States and England. This year they analyzed the results of many practical researches carried out in 70 advanced schools which include some research and development schools appointed by the Ministry of Education, and published The Research for a Framework on Subjects of Social Studies from Primary Schools through High Schools.
Significance of Research Results :
The preceding publication is one of research results, and besides the investigators can point out the significance of their unique research as follows.
(1) They gathered and analyzed the reports of many practical researches carried out in 70 advanced schools which include some research and … More development schools appointed by the Ministry of Education, and categorized the trials of curriculum development into the following types.
(a) To develope a curriculum from kindergartens through junior high schools (Akashi Kindergarten and Schools of Kobe Univ.)
(b) To restructure contents in some present subjects (Yokohama Primary School of Yokohama National Univ.)
(c) To make them into some new subjects (Primary School of Fukushima Univ. and Otemachi Primary School)
(d) To restructure contents in junior high schools from the point of view of a cross curriculum (Junior High School of Miyagi Univ. of Education) Besides they examined the significance and the problems of the revised Course of Studies, and the relation between the subjects of social studies and Life Environment Studies, comprehensive studies, international understanding.
(2) Gathering and analyzing materials for social studies on the National Standards in the United States and the National Curriculum in England, they examined aframework for social studies theoretically. Less
