Research Abstract |
Role of high temperature nuclear heat in long-term Japanese energy system, which is aiming for zero CO2 emission, is analyzed by the MARKAL model. Main subjects in the analysis are 1) Scenario preparations on socioeconomic developments over 80 years from 2000, 2) Analysis on heat and mass balance for hydrogen production by high temperature nuclear heat, 3) Estimation of flue gas CO2 emission from fossil steam power plant and its conversion to methanol, 4) Investigation and review on fuel cell characteristics which are installed in motor vehicle, 5) Energy-environment systems analysis on long-term Japanese energy system by the MARKAL model. Major findings are 1) CO2, which is emitted from fossil steam power plant, has a large potential to be reconverted to methanol which is usable as motor vehicle fuel, 2) Hydrogen, which is produced by high temperature nuclear heat application, takes a great role to reconvert the CO2 to methanol, 3) Development of new type of motor vehicle, on which mini-reformer, refrigerator, and fuel cell are installed so as to make recovered CO2 being returnable, is necessary.
