Research Abstract

スピントロニクス研究においてスピン流は本質的な役割を果たしていると考えられている一方で、保存しないという問題を抱えている。電子の持つ電荷とスピンとをつなぐ新たなスピン依存の電磁気学を構成する事は、スピン流に対する理解やスピン依存現象を明確に記述できる可能性を秘めている。
そこで、スピン流由来の現象として広く利用されている、スピン軌道相互作用下でスピン流が電流へと変換される逆スピンホール効果に着目し、電子の運動を理論的に解析する事でスピン電磁気学の考察を行った。スピン流の生成法として代表的な、強磁性体中の磁化の歳差運動を用いて非磁性体にスピン流を流す手法と、スピン偏極した電流を強磁性体から非磁性体に注入する事で拡散的なスピンの流れを誘起する方法の2種類を考慮し、逆スピンホール効果の理解を図った。
詳細に電子の伝導現象を計算する事により、電子スピンに働く有効的な電場および磁場を求め、それら有効場の満たす方程式としてマクスウェル方程式を導出した。すると、磁化の歳差運動を利用した逆スピンホール効果では、磁気モノポールが現れる事が判明した。この磁気モノポールは、磁化の歳差運動が緩和する際に生じるスピン角運動量が、スピン軌道相互作用を通じて軌道角運動量へと変換される過程で生成される。一方で、スピン偏極電流注入による場合には、磁気モノポールの寄与は見られないものの、磁化とスピン軌道相互作用が作る有効磁場により、電子スピンに依存したホール効果が起こっていると解釈できる事がわかった。
どちらの現象にも共通するものとして、磁化構造とスピン軌道相互作用が組み合わさる事で生まれるスピンに働く有効電磁場が本質である。このスピン電磁場はSU(2)の非可換ゲージ場から定義されるものであり、非可換性から磁気モノポールのような新奇物性が現れる。この非可換なスピン電磁気学が今後の発展の鍵を握っていると考えられる。
