Research Abstract |
Nakamura made photometric observations of the standard stars for the in-flight calibration of the multi-band camera aboard the spacecraft MUSES-C.Data for several standard stars were successfully obtained. Speckle spectroscopic observations were conducted at the San Pedro Martir Observatory in Mexico by Baba. Be and other interesting binary stars were observed. Shibata made observations of HI absorption from the nuclei of 6 megamaser sources using VLA.S.Sato made a monitoring program of NGC3079 using VLBA to investigate the structure of the nuclear region of megamaser source. Tamura conducted submillimeter polarization measurements of T Tauri stars with polarimeter on the JCMT atop of Mauna Kea. The submillmiter polarizations were positively detected for the first time from several T Tauri stars, providing information of the magnetic fields in protoplanetary disks. With the 43m telescope at NRAO, more than 20000 HI spectra were obtained in large areas of nearby star-forming regions by F.Sato. Ohishi used the SEST to search for large cyclic molecules toward hot molecular cloud cores and found a possible signal from furan. Sakamoto observed molecular gas in the nuclei of five neraby spiral galaxies at arcsecond resolution to reveal gas distribution and kinematics at < 100 pc resolutions. Various features are detecte including twin peaks of gas produced by bars, nuclear gas disks, central gas holes presumably caused by nuclear starbursts. Narrow-band Imaging observations were carried out of Herbig-Haro (HH) candidates at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory by Ogura. A remarkable HH object and a peculiar bipolar nebulawere discovered in TMC and NGC 2264, respectively. Nakai mapped H20 maser emission in the nuclearregion of a Seyfert galaxy IC2560, using VLBA.The result shows that maser spots are distributed along a line in the compact region of 0.1 pc in the nucleus, suggesting a gas disk rotating around the nucleus.
