Research Abstract |
Intensive Observation Period (IOP) Year of Gewex Asian Monsoon Experiments (GAME) in Thailand is 1998 and field experiments were conducted during the dry season in Thailand from January to March ; (1) surface heat balance intensive observations at a tree tower in Tropical rain forest, Sarawaku, Malaysia, at a 50m tower in Tropical dry forest, Kog Ma experimental station, Thailand, at a 120m tower near Sukhothai city and at a 20m mast in a paddy field. Latent heat flux is suppressed due to drying up the soil at the paddy field and it can be predicted using the soil moisture measurement. (2) Estimation of regional evaporation over a heterogeneous area around EGAT tower station are estimated using atmospheric profile of the planetary boundary layer. Through a comparison of the ground base flux with it, aggregation of the surface parameters are discussed. (3) Precipitable water vapor were retrieved from GPS observations at five station in Thailand and accuracy of the precipitable water is worse, the value of root mean square error is 9mm. However after strict quality check of the upper layer sonde sounding, it is improved up to less than 6mm. (4) Field experiments synchronized with satelites were conducted around paddy field stations and EGAT tower. Soil moisture samples are taken over some km range and its content is almost from one to two percentage in March, middle of the dry season. (5) Research meeting to share both IOP and routine data each other and to discuss a future plan. All data is decided to opened through the Internet along with the GAME data policy.
