Research Abstract |
Environmental conditions (air temperature, humidity, precipitation, insolation intensity, temperature of surface and inside of a brick) were measured at Rajaburana temple by a computer-controlled automatic measuring system which works by batteries. The measurement reveals the following facts : ・Daily maximum air temperature is more than 30℃ throughout the year. ・ Rain falls much in the end of rainy season. ・ Rainfall is concentrated in a short time in a day. ・ Monthly average temperature and precipitation differ year by year. Seasonal change of the moisture content ill brick pillars and surrounding ground were measured by using model structures which had been built in Maha That temple. The measurement reveals that the application of lime mortar onto the surface of a brick pillar is very effective to diminish the charlie of moisture content in the pillar. Precise investigation and seasonal measurement of moisture content in bricks were carried out at the certain place of Maha That temple where bricks have been severely in decay. And the water regime in the construction is analyzed by ccmputer using a model equation. As the result, it reveals that rain water centers towards the decaying place. So, making the top of the construction waterproof was considered effective to diminish this phenmena. Thus, an experiment using model structures was curried out. And it reveals that this method is so promising. As a pilot project, restoration of Mac Nang Pluem have been done. General survey of the site and the bibliographical study reveals that the deterioration of cement mortar which is used widely for the restoration of monuments in 1960th is now becoming a big problem. Investigation of Sukhothai historic site was carried out as related study. Sukhothai historic site and Ayutthaya historic site are quite different from each other in detail. Therefore, study on the conservation of Sukhothai historic site is needed.
