Research Abstract |
Seronegative HIV-2 carriers have been found in India. Proviral HIV-2 was detected from 11 seronegative individuals for. HIV-1 and 2. Two HIV-2 strains were detected from the culture of peripheral blood mononuclear cells of two individuals among those. Those isolates belonged to subtype A. After the successful infection to immortalized T cells HIV-2 antigen in the cells was detected by anti-HIV-2 antibody. However, the antibody in the individual from whom HIV-2 was isolated could not be bound to the HIV-2 antigen. Those results imply the presence of HIV-2 in India. The immune response to HIV-2 may act effectively. This may attributed to the fact that HIV-2 does not proliferate as much as HIV-1. Therefore immune evasion does not occur so often. As a result the amount of antigen was not enough to generate seroconversion in some cases. This was corroborated by the no alteration of amino acid sequence in V3-loop of HIV-2 during three years observation. Further careful observation is still on going to clarify the window period of HIV-2 infection as. The case of immune evasion is also focusing on as the future study.
