Research Abstract |
Technologies for the sustainable crop production is essential for an Asian region, espicially northern Malaysia and Japan. This new technologies imply the alternative agriculture, environmentally beneficial agriculture, biodynamic agricultur, regenerative agriculture and so on. In these background, we got the grant of Monbusho's International Scientific Research Program between Marine & Highland Biosience Center (MHBC) and Faculty of Agriculture, Saga University and School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) titled "Research & Development of New Technology : Marine Biotechnology and Sustainable Crop Production in Northern Malaysia". During 3 years, head invesgator and co-investigators several times visited to USM and we also invited many researchers of USM to Saga University and have held seminars and special lectures in both universities as follows. (1) Introduction to the Marine & Highland Bioscience Center, Saga University (2) Allelopathy in rice. (3) Studies on plant pathology and bioherbicides in Malaysia. (4) Studies on ecology, management and preservation of aquatic plant in Malaysia. (5) Marine biotechnology, bioactive compounds from marine invertebrates. (6) Perithecial production in matings of Pyricularia isolates from cerial and grasses. (7) Antimicrobial action of chitosan, and its application of agricultural field. (8) Research & development for objective and priorities of the fisheries sector under the eight Malaysia plan. (9) Marine biotechonology in Japan. As we havee been interested in "the New Technology : Marine Biotechnology and Sustainable Crop Production in Northern Malaysia", we have worked many studies between both universities, and have obtained some fundamental and applied new potential technologies for sustainable crop production and marine biotechnology. Research results obtained of the project were shown in references as mentioned bellow.
