The purpose of this report is to briefly discuss actual living conditions, filial responsibility and attitudes of foreign Asian wives in rural Japan. Our sample consisted of many cases of foreign Asian wives living in Mogamiarea in rural Japan of Yamagata prefectures who married Japanese men, who were born and grew up in their home country,that is, China, R.O.K. and The Philippines. Our questionnaires were made about nationality, age, educational career, marital status, living arrangements, experiene of care, needs of public services, attitudes about fantily support for the elderly, and so on. Our findings are as follows: The foreign Asian wives in West and South Rural Japan live not their mothers-in-law, but theforeign Asian wives in Tohoku district' s rural Japan living with their mothers-in-law in own house,and so, the conflict between the foreign Asian wives and their mothers-in-law has not happened in West and South Rural area. Also, foreign Asian wives' filial responsibility in West and South Rural Japan have not happened. On the other hand, the foreign Asian wives in Tohoku district' S rural Japajn have much more problems to their mothers-in-law in own house. The foreign Asian wives' care to Japanese elderly in Mogami district is not found. Because if the needs for care to Japanese elderly, spouse of elderly couple have doing, otherwise Japanese elderly are younger old. About the marital status, the remarrying rate of Korean and Chinese are more than that of the Philippines. Attitudes about family support (emotional, financial and physical support) for the Japanese elderly, especially, Chinese and Filipino wives whose attitudes are higher than Korean wives.
