Research Abstract

Immunohistochemical investigation of 131 oral squamous cell carcinomas with p130 revealed that positive staining with p130 was found in many well-differentiated carcinomas and low-grade malignancy cases.
In oral malignant melanoma, p130 positively was recognized in the cases of which survival period was over 10 years and p53 positively was recognized in the cases of which survival period was below 1 year.
In oral leukoplakie which is precancerous lesion, positive staining with p130 and Rb was shown in the cases with low grade of dysplasia and positive staining with p53 was shown in the cases with high grade of dysplasia. It is suggested that immunohistochemical examination with p130, Rb and p53 is helpful for predicting the clinical course of oral leukoplakie.
β-catenin gene mutation was not recognized in oral squamous cell carcinoma cases and oral squamous cell carcinoma cell line. However, β-catenin protein was accumulated in the nuclei and the cytoplasm with the expression of EGFR which is related to tyrosin-phospholyration of β-catenin protein and it is thought that the examination of β-catenin gene is effective for analysis of degree of malignancy of oral cancer.
