Research Abstract |
In this research, we assesed the clinical availability of the thermographical examination for diagnosis of trigeminal nerve injury. The results wer as follows; 1.In the experiment using volunteer healthy adults, the block anesthesia for unilateral inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) revealed the difference of skin temperature of lower lip following the cold loading test. The examination of TSEP (Trigeminal somatosensory evoked potential) revealed the flatness of the wave form during the anesthetized condition in all subjects, though the changes of lip temperature were different between subjects. Although TSEP is the most objective examination for sensory nerve injury, this examination could not showed the levels of ansthesia. 2.According to the examination for the patients with IAN injury, the thermographical examination revealed the difference of lower lip temperature in injury side at rest and also showed clearly the different recovery curve of temperature following cold loading test. This phenomena was clearly observed in these patients compared with the subjects anesthetized by IAN block ansethesia. 3.According to the research using the experimental animals with dissection of unilateral IAN, the nerve dissection brought the higher temperature of the skin temperature at rest and at recovery condition following cold loading test. According to these result, the skin temperature of the area ineervated by trigeminal nerve is changed thermographical examination may useful for assessment of the presence of trigeminal nerve injury in patients.
