The purpose of this research is deveioping the CASTEL/J database for Japanese language education into foreign country languages. This research advances in the enforcement plan for four years. and this year is the last year. Our CASTEL/J project had developed the database for teaching and learning Japanese applied multimedia technology. We developed (1) Dictionary database of Kanjj, (2) Hitsujun database of Kanjj, (3) Basic word database, (4) Usage database, (5) Academic term database, (6) Japanese-English dictionary, (7)Text database for readings, (8)Phonetic data of basic Japanese and (9) Visual data of basic Japanese. Dividing the above database included in th~~ CASTEL/J CD-ROM. We were able to develop the basic word dictionary into many languages by this research. Specifically, we improved the CASTEL/J database which consists of Japanese and English into Spanish. Portuguese, German, and Italian. Finishing this research, we are sure that the CASTEL/J database can be used now for more Japanese teachers and students. But, If we evaluate the developed system, how to spell a basic word cannot call it completeness yet at present. This is a future subject.
