Research Abstract

Cleaning of exhaust gases has been done successfully by a pulsed power generator with a high repetition rate. The reactor chamber of atmospheric pressure was used, and a thin spiral wire and cylindrical tube were used as electrodes. Furthermore an experiment of water cleaning has been done by a high voltage pulsed power generator. The obtained results are summarized as follows.
(1) The SO2 and NOx gases in gases similar to a real gas were removed by a pulsed power. The effect of fly ash on NOx removal was investigated. The presence of fly ash decreased the NOx removal ratio in the case of dry gas mixtures while it increased the NOx removal ratio substantially in the case of wet gas mixtures.
(2) The large volume streamer discharges were produced successfully. A pulsed power generator with 200 kV output voltage and 1 i second pulse-width was used to apply a pulsed power to the line to cylindrical electrodes in the water. The homogeneous streamer discharges were produced along several tens of cm. The conductivity of water has a large effect to make the uniform discharges. A large volume plasma can be produced in the water of lakes and marshes.
(3) The deodorization and decoloration of water were done by micro-discharges in micro bubbles.
(4) The pulsed power produced high-density ozone with a high efficiency.
