Research Abstract |
Development of a method for archiving of 3-dimensional information from Book : At first, an application system is developed, which gets from digital image archived from the book surface located horizontal, a global surface information and precise 3-D information coming from bending and rotation of used paper. It has many problems when using photometric stereo method that (1) It can not be approximated that optical characteristic of paper surface is complete scattering surface. (2) It can not be solved the problem because of influence of multi-reflection, shadow and so on, at the boundary between pages. So a new method to get better 3-D information has been developed. Development of a method for archiving high-resolution information from book : Currently the resolution of digital camera is approximately 2000 pixel by 2000 pixel, so when archiving wider book, it can not be gotten sufficient resolution. So, a method to combine gotten several separated pictures, has been developed, The method is that, for the overlapped region, stereo matching method is applied for getting 3-D information and for other region, the 3-D information is gotten by interpolating from uper and lower 3-D information which are gotten previous method. Development of a method for archiving from picture in the book : At last, a method for digitizing pictures in the book, has been developed. The method is basically the same as when digitizing characters. The paint-strength model is proposed and developed. This method is robust for that, the reflection characteristics of the surface of the rare book are various, including small 3-D variance. This method is based on the facts that at that time there were only few kind of paints and from the chemical reason there were few overlaid painting. The method is concerned such properties, and gets better results.
