Research Abstract |
The present study was intended to reveal the effects of using the meta-knowledge about information distribution in a team upon the accuracy and creativity of team decision making. The research investigation was conducted at the Tokyo blanch of a big Japanese electric company. I analyzed the contents of team meeting processes and e-mail logs exchanged in teams. As the results of research in 1998, it was found that the members of excellent performing teams grasped how the colleagues carried out their usual business activities and what kind of information they have highly well with each other. It was observed as well that they used such meta-knowledges practically when they held the meetings for team decision making. This year, I promoted the content analysis for logs of electric communication within each team with focusing on the leader behaviors and the differences in the strategies of practical usage of electric communication system. I conducted a questionnaire survey with the aim to examine the effects of introducing the electric communication system into organizations upon information handling processes of teams. The results of these investigations showed that information sharing within team members developed the leader centered network for information exchange, though it was expected that electric communication system activated flat network in which every member exchanged information mutually . In the leader centered network, leader played the definitely center role such as getting together information from members, arranging them, elaborating he strategies based on arranged information, and communicating the strategies to members. These results are full of suggestiveness that, with progress of electric communication system permeate into business organizations, team leaders come to play more important role for accurate and creative team decision making than ever.
