Research Abstract |
(1)We reviewed the latest studies and reports on autism from the point of social development and disability. We revalued and discussed the Kanner's idea of autism. We proposed several perspectives to study the autistic adolescent and adult people's social development. On the base these theoretical discussions, we studied following subjects. (2)We examined the autistic adolescent and adult people's self-recognition and other-recognition ability by the method of mirror image and other tests. We discussed relation of these results and abilities of working in community work centers. (3)We discussed theoretical problems of significance of severe handicapped autistic people's working in community work centers. And then we studied characteristics of development and disability of severe handicapped autistic people in community work centers. (4)We made questionnaires to the staffs in community work centers and parents of autistic people. We cleared the conditions and problems in community work centers from the point of assuring the development of these people and requiring of staffs for improvements of condition in community work centers, and discussed their quality of life. (5)Finally we discussed suitable and practical support systems for severe handicapped autistic people in community work centers.
