Research Abstract |
This study is to clarify the social function (or similarities/differences) of urban type Elderly Colleges, both of educational type and welfare type, mainly by questionnaire survey of attendees. Nishinomiya City Elderly College (educational stream) and Osaka Prefectural Elderly College (welfare stream) are the targets of the research. Main results gained from this research are as follows : 1.People who made new friendship ties in the College were more likely to show positive attitudes toward the College, especially in the case of Osaka College. Nishinomiya College attendees had more positive attitude toward what they had learnt there. 2.Continuity of attending to the College and learning had to do with positive attitude toward learning. 3.Similar problems of these Colleges. a. Gender problem. Males paid more attention to the after retirement life, whereas females paid more attention to health and human relations. b. Aging problem. People of their 60s and 70s showed different attitudes toward learning. 4.Thus social function of urban Elderly College suggested from this study is to reconstruct the elderly people's social networks via learning, involving gender and aging problems.
