Research Abstract |
In this research, we generated terahertz (far-infrared) radiation over 6 THz by mixing radiation from a ィイD115ィエD1 NHィイD23ィエD2 laser and a COィイD22ィエD2 laser in a metal-insulator-metal diode. A ィイD115ィエD1NHィイD23ィエD2 laser and a COィイD22ィエD2 laser to pump it were designed and constructed. A feedback system for stabilization of a ィイD115ィエD1NHィイD23ィエD2 laser was also designed and made up. The ィイD115ィエD1NHィイD23ィエD2 laser was locked to a saturated absorption signal from low pressure of ィイD115ィエD1NHィイD23ィエD2 gas, and its frequencies were measured by heterodyning the ィイD115ィエD1NHィイD23ィエD2 laser against COィイD22ィエD2 lasers. This ィイD115ィエD1NHィイD23ィエD2 laser was combined with a COィイD22ィエD2 laser constructed previously for difference frequency generation. Generation of far-infrared radiation was confirmed by observing spectra of CHィイD23ィエD2OH which has rich torsion-rotation transitions over 6 THz. We succeeded in the observation of a spectrum at 9 THz. Using this far-infrared radiation, 8 transitions of HF, HィイD135ィエD1C1, HィイD137ィエD1C1 were observed in the 6 to 9 THz region.
