Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study is to examine the application of modified Epoxy Resin as preservative materials for ancient cultural properties composing of soils and/or rocks. The solidified soils and rocks (by using Epoxy Resin) are characterized by their high compressive strength, high tensile strength and permeability. The results of this research can be summarized as follows : 1) The compressive strength of the solidified soils varies depending on the amount of added Epoxy Resin and the soil types. 2) When the soil of type {S} is used, and the mixing proportion of the resin is 25% in weight of soil, its compressive strength is found to be 85,000 kN/mィイD12ィエD1. 3) When the mixing proportion of the resin is 10%, the compressive strengths are found to be 34,000 kN/mィイD12ィエD1 for the soil of type {S}, 1,100 kN/mィイD12ィエD1 for the soil of type {SF}, and 450 kN/mィイD12ィエD1 for the soil of type {MH}. 4) The tensile strength of solidified soils is found to be 30%〜40% of the compressive strength, irrespective of the soil types. 5) The coefficients of permeability of the solidified soils is found to be constant, if mixing proportion of the resin is less than 20% in weight of soil. 6) No aging changes of the ancient remains were found by field surveys and geophysical method after preservative treatments using Epoxy Resin.
